Apple Pay in your library!
Apple Pay, the contactless payment system for low-value transactions, is now ready and available for your library, making self-service transactions quicker and more convenient. What’s more, it’s cheaper than handling cash!
Following the country-wide deployment of Apple Pay in North America, Apple this week announced that their contactless payment system is available in retail outlets across the UK, allowing customers to pay for a range of products with a ‘tap’ of their phone. Apple Pay allows patrons to pay for retail transactions up to £20 in value (rising to £30 in September) without the need to remove a card from their wallet or enter a pin. Instead, a compatible iPhone 6, 6 Plus or Apple Watch is simply tapped on the payment device.
Libraries wishing to take advantage of this fantastic new technology need only have a card payment device with contactless reader deployed as part of their bibliotheca kiosks. Available as a new device or as an upgrade to existing supported devices, the kiosk is ready to take contactless Apple pay transactions.
Darren Ratcliffe, Managing Director bibliotheca UK commented “The deployment of Apple Pay across the UK presents libraries with an excellent opportunity to deploy the latest in payment technology and continue to offer services that reflect the changing lifestyle of the community. The advantage of contactless transactions is they further reduce the need to handle cash in the library, making reporting and handling much more efficient. To make the transition to contactless payment acceptance as easy as possible, we’ve embedded support directly in our latest version of kiosk software – making it as easy as possible for our customers”.
Working with the support of bibliotheca and your Payment Service Provider, libraries upgrading their kiosks to support Apple Pay get the additional benefit of being able to support all contactless card payment technologies – meaning that low-value transactions can be taken with most major contactless credit and debit cards.
At launch, Apple Pay is available in the UK in over 250,000 retail locations. Major retailers that will support Apple Pay include Boots, BP, Costa Coffee, Dune, JD Sports, KFC UK & Ireland, Liberty, LIDL, Marks & Spencer (M&S), McDonald’s UK, Nando’s, New Look, Post Office, Pret A Manger, SPAR, Starbucks, SUBWAY stores, Wagamama and Waitrose.
