bibliotheca, is proud to have recently supported, as official sponsors, the Scottish Edge Conference 2012, a two-day conference focused on delivering excellence in libraries that took place on 1st and 2nd March in Edinburgh.
The annual conference, which is now in its third year, is run by Edinburgh City Libraries and is dedicated to exploring how public services can benefit from developing technologies and highlighting the vital role that libraries play within the public services sector – a theme and focus that is a core value of bibliotheca.
This year, Edinburgh City Libraries introduced their EDGE awards ceremony to highlight positive achievements and promote outstanding library-based initiatives that celebrate the value of libraries. The ceremony was hosted by Bill Jamieson, Executive Editor of the Scotsman newspaper, and invited libraries and organisations to nominate themselves for recognition under three key innovative areas; physical appearance, virtual websites and social involvement.
bibliotheca, who recently deployed self-service library solutions for City of Edinburgh Council in 14 locations, including the central lending Library, provided sponsorship for the Social category, which was centred on engaging with and making a difference in local communities. The winner of the category, The Reader Organisation (for their ‘Get Into Reading’ initiative), was presented with the award by Richard Stewart, on behalf of bibliotheca, who also presented the certificate to the category’s runner up, Ennis Book Club Festival.
On approaching bibliotheca to support the event, Liz McGettigan, Edinburgh Libraries Information & Service Manager, commented: “Edinburgh City Libraries have worked with bibliotheca since 2008 using their self-service products to improve our customer service by releasing additional public space and providing open and welcoming entry to our libraries. Approaching bibliotheca to sponsor our Social category seemed an obvious choice and I was delighted when they accepted.”
Commenting on being asked to present at the EDGE awards ceremony, Richard Steward stated: “we were thrilled to be invited to present the Social Award at The EDGE Conference 2012. Edinburgh City Libraries is one of our flagship self-service implementations and we are fortunate to work with such a proactive and talented team inspired by Liz’s vision and enthusiasm. We wish to congratulate all the winners and runners up on the evening and extend a big thank you for their legendary hospitality.”
