Atlanta-based library technology company, bibliotheca, has announced today it will sponsor local charity StandUp for Kids by planning events to raise funds and awareness of youth homelessness across the United States.
Established in 1990, StandUp for Kids is a national non-profit charity that provides support to the 1.3 million homeless children and youths across the United States. The charity, almost entirely volunteer-led, offers homeless youth and street kids basic survival necessities, such as food and clothing, and life-changing services, including assistance with housing, educational development and employment opportunities.
bibliotheca’s North American team has supported local charities for years, hosting events to raise money for many causes that are dear to the team. In 2013, the company, through its charitable arm Biblioteam™ (non-management team of bibliotheca staff), supported both ‘United through Reading’, a charity that unites separated military families through their love of reading, and the ‘Books for Kids Foundation’, an organization that promotes literacy among young, underprivileged children. Throughout the year, bibliotheca staff members hosted and participated in a variety of events to raise funds for both causes, including pancake breakfasts, trivia nights, bake sales and participating in a 45-mile cycling challenge.
For 2014, by employee vote, Biblioteam™ has decided to make StandUp for Kids the focus of its charitable activities and has already started planning exciting events to raise funds for this worthy cause.
Al Coalla, bibliotheca’s President of North America comments: “We are honored to support a remarkable charity such as StandUp for Kids. The mission of the charity is close to bibliotheca’s heart; everyday we work with libraries that offer services, such as education and employment assistance, to members of their communities. We know how important it is that young people are provided with this support in order to improve their daily lives. We applaud the work that is done by Stand up for Kids and look forward to hosting exciting events to help the charity raise much needed funds.”
Kelly Fields, Executive Director at StandUp For Kids Atlanta adds: “we are so grateful for bibliotheca and their commitment to furthering our mission to ensure that homeless youths are not forgotten, that their potential is never untapped and that ideas, such as graduating high school, are not a dream for them, but an attainable goal. It is through our relationship with outstanding corporate partners such as bibliotheca that we are able to work to end the cycle of youth homelessness.”
