Leading library technology provider bibliotheca will be spreading festive joy to two specially selected charities this year after they were nominated to receive a donation from the company as part of its festive holiday photo campaign.
The campaign, which was entitled ‘What does your library look like during the holidays?’, ran throughout November and early December this year and encouraged bibliotheca customers from around the world to submit a photo of their decorated library to be entered to win a donation towards a charity of their choice.
Over 100 entries were submitted as part of the campaign, with libraries from Australia, Brazil, Germany, UK and US all sharing with us how they transform their libraries over the holiday season and the efforts they go to make their library branches inviting, magical and creative spaces. After much deliberation, bibliotheca selected the entry from Glenside Library at the University of the West of England (UWE) in the UK as its overall winner. The winning photo was submitted by UWE Librarian Mandy Faulkner Gibson, with their £500 prize-winning donation being awarded to Caring at Christmas – a local charity that helps the homeless and vulnerable over the Christmas period.
Although the intention of the campaign was to initially award one winner, due to the amount of fantastic entries the company received, bibliotheca decided to add a runner-up place, with €250 also being donated to Freundeskreis für Flüchtlinge (Friends of the Refugees), the chosen charity of runner-up library Stadtbibliothek Hammelburg in Germany.
Andy Chadbourne, bibliotheca’s Marketing Director, comments: “We have had some fantastic entries and it is really great to see how libraries around the world celebrate the holiday season and decorate their libraries with such festive spirit. It was difficult for us to decide on a winner, which is why we included the runner-up place, but we feel that the two libraries that have been awarded with the donations really stood out from the crowd and we hope our small donation will help both our selected charities with their work.”
Mandy Faulkner Gibson of UWE added: “We are thrilled to be selected as the winner of bibliotheca’s photo contest. Our theme this year is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the second of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia. The display that features in the photo we submitted was created by Jonathan, our Library Information Assistant, who made all the items himself - in his own time and at his own expense. The money will go to the very worthy charity Caring at Christmas, which is being organized within the library by our very own Library Information Assistant, Mel.
bibliotheca will be highlighting some of the entries with a special holiday message that will be promoted on its social media channels and all photo entries can be seen by visiting here.
