EDC’s Center for Children and Technology continues the discussion around best uses of educational technology for learning in these unusual times. Reinventing formal instruction and informal learning experiences for remote learning requires innovation. Regardless of learning environment, people need social interaction and emotional support. Libraries are uniquely positioned to assist educators, support struggling families and connect with vulnerable community members.
A conversation with education researchers and library leaders, they discuss how libraries can thrive in this new environment and help build the social and emotional skills of their patrons when communities need it the most. Librarians are uniquely situated to support children and youth by incorporating innovative strategies into their daily practices, and they can help identify students who might benefit from additional mental health support. This webinar provides librarians an overview of the impact that COVID-19 is having on children and youth’s social and emotional wellbeing, and the strategies they can use to support them, including incorporating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into literacy programs, using relationship-building strategies, and making mental health referrals. This webinar is primarily intended to help bridge learning across academic and community-based settings.
