1 About cloudCheck mobile

cloudCheck mobile is an app that allows you to borrow library items straight from your phone, without going to the counter or using a kiosk.

cloudCheck mobile also allows you to renew borrowed items remotely, without visiting the library. The app keeps track of your borrowed items and stores receipts for each transaction.

cloudCheck mobile uses your phone camera to scan barcodes when necessary. It also uses your phone’s NFC capability to identify library items by reading their RFID tags.

The app is available for iOS version 15.6 or later, and Android version 13 or later. Support is not available for Huawei.

The first time you open the app, you will go through a login process. (See “Logging In”) After that, every time you will see the screen shown below. You will have the following options:

  • To scan an item in order to borrow it, select Continue. (See “Borrowing Items” for details.)
  • To see your account, check due dates on borrowed items, renew items and check on-hold items, select Account. (See “Account Management and Receipts” for details.)
Screenshot of cloudCheck mobile showing a confirmation message: “5 items borrowed. You now have 5 items borrowed in total.” Below, the user’s email is displayed for the receipt option, with buttons for “No Receipt” and “Finish.”

You can easily move between the Borrow and Account sections of the app by selecting Borrow or Account at the bottom of the screen. The currently active section is highlighted in blue.

2 Logging In

The cloudCheck mobile app is available to download from Google Play Store and Apple App Store so anyone can download it, install it and run it in demo mode.

The steps below, explaining how to log in and associate the cloudCheck mobile app with your local library, assume that your library has been licensed to work with the app. If this is not the case, you will not see your library in the list of libraries to choose from.

Logging into cloudCheck mobile is a one-off process. Once you have downloaded and installed cloudCheck mobile, start the app and follow the steps below to connect to your library.

Having completed the process successfully, you will not be asked to log in again until you log out manually.

To log in, make sure you have your library card details at hand and do the following:

1. On the Welcome screen, select the desired language, then select Continue.

6 Appendix A: Hong Kong Metropolitan University

The CloudCheck mobile application has been modified for Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Additional security features have been added to accommodate specific requirements for use in the HKMU library.

During login, Single Sign-On is enabled, instead of a basic barcode and PIN. After a patron accesses Rest of World, they will select their country, then a state or region, then their library.

After selecting Country, State or Region, and Library, the patron is redirected to an external single sign-on (SSO) login page, where they enter their User ID and password.

After successfully logging in on the external SSO login page, the patron is directed back to the cloudCheck mobile application.

HKUM image 2

After successful validation, the patron is returned to the main page, then prompted to enter biometric data (thumbprint/faceID), or an alternative secondary authentication method.

Biometric verification is required each time the application resumes after a period of idleness.

6.1 Logging out

To sign off, select Log Out in the upper right hand corner of the account screen

HKUM image 4

When Log Out is selected, the patron is redirected to the single sign on (SSO) logout screen.

HKUM image 5

After log out is complete, the patron is redirected to the application.

Note: If the application does not automatically close the SSO screen, manually closing the browser window returns the patron to the login screen.

It is not required to logout after using the application.
Patrons may remain logged in for as long as desired.

Biometric verification is required each time the application resumes after a period of idleness.
