cloudLibrary’s new Kid’s Mode: a better way to improve children’s digital library experience

As the pandemic forced schools to close and libraries to pause in-person visits, many libraries met the challenge by increasing their children’s digital collection. Now, cloudLibrary’s new Kid’s Mode introduces a brand new interface designed to improve children’s digital library experience and make it easier than ever for even the youngest readers to discover what their library has to offer.

The new Kid’s Mode interface is designed specifically for children and will especially appeal to those in preschool through sixth grade. It features a streamlined design with fun graphics, easy navigation with bigger buttons, and kid-friendly browsing and searching. A simplified home screen makes it easier for children to explore content and find their next great read without distracting and unnecessary options for account information and notifications.

Fiction genres and categories have been updated to make finding high-interest content easy and fun. Children can browse for titles under categories such as adventure, animals, sports, and scary stories. Kid-friendly graphics allow even pre-readers to identify subject matter, while the Read Along category displays all interactive read-along titles in one place. Likewise, the non-fiction categories have been arranged alphabetically from Activity Books to Travel to make it simple for young readers to find just what they want.

Best of all, when using Kid’s Mode, search will only return results from juvenile fiction and juvenile non-fiction categories. This filter can be used with or without the audience filtering feature that has long been part of cloudLibrary.

Engineered to improve children’s digital library experience, the new Kid’s Mode gives all patrons the ability to turn the cloudLibrary app into a child-centered, reading environment at the flip of a switch. Parents simply enter their children’s library card into cloudLibrary, navigate to Account Settings, select the child’s card, and toggle on Kid’s Mode.

Libraries work hard to build digital collections that delight the children they serve. cloudLibrary’s Kid’s Mode helps drive circulation of those collections within a kid friendly and engaging digital experience.
