Webinar: It All Adds Up! How Librarians Can Support Math Literacy for Children and Families
panelists + moderator
Attendee Responses + Information
Research shows that having strong early math skills when entering kindergarten is the best predictor of eighth-grade performance regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic status. When educators support math skills early, it is predicted later achievement more than reading abilities or social-emotional development.
We had a conversation with research, education, and library leaders to discuss ways libraries can integrate mathematics learning into their programming to help all children, particularly those from underserved communities, have the opportunity to engage with rich mathematical ideas. We discussed existing research and drew from our experience doing this work with children, families, and the Worcester Public Libraries. Attendees left with ideas they could implement in their own children’s programming.
