Introducing outdoor holds pickup with integrated Library Information Distribution Platform

Bibliotheca has released the new remoteLocker outdoor solution for library holds pickup and returns. Engineered with anti-corrosion steel and wiring, the new weatherproof book lockers combine the best outdoor locker hardware with Bibliotheca’s Library Information Distribution Platform, uniFi+, which allows the screen to act as a digital billboard to promote library events and services. They feature lighted weatherproof awnings, an IP54 rating, and can operate in temperatures -20°F – 120°F (-30°C – 54°C), allowing libraries to provide patrons with access to library materials and communications in virtually any environment.

According to a recent IPC survey, locker use by consumers has risen 27% in the last year, with 39% of respondents reporting having used a locker to pick up items in the last 12 months. Bibliotheca brings the convenience consumers have come to expect to library service. remoteLocker outdoor allows even small libraries that lack an accessible foyer to offer 24/7 access to library materials.

The new remoteLocker is designed specifically for outdoor use and features compartments of multiple sizes to accommodate small, medium, and large pickup orders and the modular design allows libraries to add additional towers at any time. The lockers are easy for patrons to open using just their library card and come equipped with a barcode scanner as well as a smartcard reader and proximity sensor.

Both the original remoteLocker and the new remoteLocker outdoor are the only solutions on the market to offer integrated digital library communications through uniFi+, Bibliotheca’s Library Information Distribution Platform. uniFi+ enables libraries to quickly and easily broadcast promotions and messages to every library screen, including those outside the library building.

The Pew Research Center reports that one third of library patrons know “not much” or “nothing at all” about library offerings.
